A story of the attempted assassination of President Taft is spread broadcast throughout the United Stales. It is reported that an infernal machine wai used, and that the President's private secretary opened the package in the nick of time, escaping with slight burns after extinguishing the fuse.

White House officials deny that there is any truth in the story.
