RACING CONFERENCE.

ALLOCATION OF PERMITS.

The Racing Conference met to-day. Sir George Clifford (president) said hs felt it his duty to enter a respectful protest at the way in which successive Governments had ignored the Conference when dealing with matters of greatest moment to those whose interests the Conference was appointed to guard. Before decisions in readjustments of racing days and permits were come to it would have Deen but courteous to formally and informally ascertain the views of t'na Conference.

The president said the Conference had a credit balance of £Bl7, and the accident fund a credit of £12,890. The Dates and Permits Committee regretted that owing to the days available it could not con3idar the application for additional or new permits from Northern Wairoa, Takapuna, Thames, Christchurch, North Canterbury, Westport, ■ Waipawa County, Hawke's Bay Hunt. Taieri, Palmerston. Riccarton. Patea, Rangitikei, Ashhurst, Lower Valley, Pahiatua, Wairarapa. It was recommended that th« dates of racing meetings be approved subject to the following exceptions and amend.ments: Dannevirke Club to be allowed September 11th, Avondale September 25th and 28th, Marlborough to be allowed to change from October IGbh and 17th to November 20th and 21st, Masterton to be allowed October 17th, South Canterbury to be allowed to change from October 21st and 22nd to November.2oth and 21st, Auckland to be allowed Noyernbfir Bth and 9th, Tara-tahi-Carterton December 26th, North Otago January 2nd and 3rd, Takapuna January 29th and February Ist, Te Kuiti February 6th, Canterbury February 6th and Bth. Rotorua February 12th, Gisborne February 13th and 14th, Tologa Bay February 22nd, Auckland March 22nd and 24th, Kumara March 24th, Westland March 26th, Reefton April 2nd, South Canterbury Jockey Club April 16th and 17th in lieu of April 9th and 10th. The objection of the Napier Club to the Masterton Club's March 13th and 14th dates to be sustained and Mas terton granted April 24th and 25th. Thd committee's report as above was referred back, as it had been compiled before the announcement was made that the Rangitikei Club was to get two days' racing this year. Subsquently the conference adopted th 9 report re dates of race meetings, and authorised the president, with or without assistance of the Dates Committee, tn adjust and, settle a list of dates in so far aB any alterations might be rendered necessary through any determination of the Minister of Internal Affairs. The committee are having a regard for the resolution passed last year, affirming a right of clubs which have their permits o

their original dates where they were reinstated, as in the case of Rangitikei.

The report of the special committee on the advisability of assisting recognised hunt clubs was adopted on the undestanding that the Dominion be divided into districts; racing clubs within which should contribute to the support of local hunt clubs. The president said that already racing clubs were assisting unt clubs to the extent of £IBOO a year.

READJUSTMENT OF PERMITS

Wellington, Thursday

The Minister for Internal Affairs has finally decided the totalisator permits question for the coming season, cmmencing August Ist. As the number of days' racing at which totalisator permits may be used is limited by Statute to 250. these will be allotted for the same days and the same clubs as held licenses this year, except that the Rangitikei Club will be allowed two days, one of which will be taken from Marton and one f;om the Canterbury Jockey Club.
