HIGH COMMISSIONER'S CABLEGRAM.

The High Commissioner's cable, dated London, July 13th. is as follows, quotations, unless otherwise specified, are average market prices on spot: — Mutton. —The market is steady, with very good demand. Canterbury 3|d to 4§d, North Island 3§d to 4|d according to weight. Ewes 3Jd. Lamb. —There is good demand for all lamb. Deliveries light at the market on account of the strike, but the quantity being discharged is improving. Quotations show a weaker tendency. Canterbury heavy weights sfd,lightweights 6£d scarce; other than Canterbury Jd to *d less than these. Beef. —The market is quiet but firm. New Zealand 4£d, New Zealand fores 3£d. Butter.—The market is quiet but rather steadier. Stocks of New Zealand are pretty well cleared. Choicest New Zealand butt«r 113s, Australian 106s, Siberian 103s, Danish 1225; Cheese.—The market is declining, on account of heavy home supplies, and business is dull. New Zealand white, 665, coloured 675. Wool.—The market remains firm. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., report: — We held our monthly Cambridge stock sale and report a big yarding of cattle and keen competition throughout for all classes. Buyers were present from Kawhia, Paeroa, and all the surrounding disticts. Beef sold well, especially cows, making from £8 to £9 10s, others £6, to £1 10s, lighter weights and not too well finished £5 to £5 13s, cowh in forward condition £4 to £4 15s, fat bullocks £9 to £9 7s, highter weights £8 5s to £8 7s 6d, 3 year old steers £5 to £5 15s, store cows £2 5s to £3 10s, empty heifers £3 6s to £4 Bs, according to quality, strong yearlingß mixed sexes £2 to £2 lis, yearling heifers £2 18s 6d, smaller cattle not so well done made up to 38s 6d, weedy calves 20s to 235. The entry included three whole dairy herds, and best cows made from £9 10s to £l3, others £8 to £9 ss, backward £6 10s to £7 15s, springing heifers £6 10s to £7 15s, slate calvers £4 17s 6d to v£s ss, hoggets were eagerly sought after, making from 13s 2d to 13s 7d for mixed sexes, fat ewes 12s to 13s Bd, sows in pig made from £4 10s to £5 7s 6d, others £i 10s to £3 2s 6d, porkers 355, choice slips up to 30s, smaller 16a to 20a.
