FOOTBALL.

TE KUITI 13 v. TANEHOPUWAI 0. The above dabs met on the Te Kuiti ground on Saturday last. The ground was practically under water and all attempts at decent football were out of the question. Two forty minute spells were played. Tanehopuwai kicked off Dement returning. Give and take play followed. Wilson stopped a strong rush by the Te Kuiti forwards, who had carried play to Tanehopuwai 25. Killop also showed some fine defensive work. Kite dribbled the ball over the Tane's line, but lost it when a try seemed certain. The Tane. forwards with Griffiths in the lead, took.play to Te Kuiti 25. Healey getting possession, gained ground with a lengthy line kick. Shortly after this Matthews gathered the ball and raced for the line. When nearly over, he was pushed out of play. Kite, after a good dribble from the 25 line scored. Healey added the major peints. A short while after this Kite again dribbled over the line but lost ths ball. However*, Dement was handy and scored. No goal resulted. Half time was called with the score—Te Kuiti 8, Tanehopuwai nil. The second spell, was again confined principally to the forwards, the ball and ground being entirely against a any good display by the backs The local forwards soon carried play to the Tane 25. where Killop and Hiriaki showed sound defence. The Tane forwards occasionally showed some good footwork, but were inclined to kick too hard, and this iost one or two chances of scoring. Shortly before the call of time Matthews scored, and Maher converted—Te Kuiti 13, Tanehopuwail nil. NOTES. The Tanehopuwai team are to be congratulated upon the sterling fight they put up.' The game was more even than the score indicates, and at times the local men were strictly on the defensive. Among the backs, Killup, at full, played a splendid game, while Wilson and Hiriaki also played solid games. Griffiths and others of the forwards showed up well. Te Kuiti did not have their best team in the field but those who played, in spite cf the state of the ground, gave a fair exhibition, and all worked hard. Kite possibly played the best game on ths ground. He was on the bail all the time. His dribbling and following up were very good indeed. If some of the other forwards took a lesson from his display on Saturday it would be a good thing for the team. OTOROHANGA 14 y. WAIMIHA 0. The Otorohanga team journeyed to Waimiha on Saturday, and after a fast game defeated the local players by 14 points to nil. Mr Furber was referee. KAEAEA 9v. PIO PIO 3. • In the B section of the competitions under the auspices of the Maniaputo Rugby Union a match was played at Pio Pio on Saturday last between Kaeaea and Pio Pio. The game was mostly confined to the forwards and after a keen struggle the Kaetaea players proved victorious by 9 points to 3. For the losers Nicholls and Caddigan played excellently, and for Kaeaea Riddle was often prominent. Mr G. Elliott referred in his usual efficient manner.
