AMERICAN WINS "HUNDRED." Stockholm, Monday. At the Olympic Games to-day Craig, America, won the 100 metres championship in 10 4-ssecs. Stewart, the Australian representative was beaten in the second heat. There was a sensational incident in the semi-final of the 400 metres relay race. America beat England by three yards, but the team was disqualified because Wilson in taking the pass from Deloite, over-ran the mark by a metres
AUSTRALIAN OARSMEN. London, Monday. The Times, in commenting on the Grand Challenge Cup, which the Australian eight won, said the colonials' style was not fundamentally different from that of the English. The difference was rather in the rig than in the style. The determining factor of the rig requires fu'ler investigation than it hao hitherto received.
Other papers pay high tributes to the Australian rowtra. The Sportsman says the Leander crew erred badly in not regarding the opposition seriomly enough. The result is a serious blow to the English style of rowing. The Standard says that there is no excuse for the Leander Club's failure. The prospect of turning the tables at Stockholm is very remote. GRAY BEATS STEVENSON. Johannesburg, Monday. Stevenson and Gray, the young colonial, who are now touring the world together, played a match of 18,000 up here. Gray won by 4591 points running out when Stevenson's total stood at 13,409. Gray made a break of 1055.
