PIO PIO.
Own Correspondent,
June, so far, has been exceptionally stormy and wet, bitterly cold wind accompanied by torrents of rain. The Mokau ia in flood and parts of the Pio Pio-Te Kuiti road are inundated. Our roads, or rather the semblance of roads, are in a deplorable state being in reality rivers of mud, and nearly impassible. Old rr.aidsnts say they are worse than ever they were.
The mail coacbes"sti!l run with their usual regularity, and I think a word of praise is due to the drivers, Messrs Lewis and Nash, for getting through so punctually, 33 last week miles of the road was under water, and in places the horses nearly having to swim.
Pio Pio still progresses. A nev shop is being erected by Mr Geo Me Kay, one of our local storekeepers.
A ball was held in the Public Hall on the 14th inst. A fair number was present. The butter factory having closed down till next spring, the manager (Mr Tunnicliue) and his wife and family are away on a well-earned holiday. Several of our community are suffering from the mumps: fortunately the epidemic ia a slight one.
