WAIKATO HOSPITAL BOARD.
The Waikato Hospital Board met on Thursday and decided, at the request of the Health Department, to appoint another Maori or half-cate girl as nurse. Dr Douglas stated that Maori girls under training had proved most satisfactory. The drainage from the new consumptive wards is to be taken 350 ft to connect with the septic tank. The House and Finance Committee visited the hospital with Mr I-I. Munro Wilson, electrical engineer, and selected a site for the powerhouse. It was also decided to add an extra boiler at a cost of £3OO, and that provision should be made for a Bteam laundry. A scheme for water supply and electric lighting, estimated by Mr Munro Wilson to cost £3600, was approved, and he was authorised to prepare plans and specification for the work. It was decided to obtain an overdraft of £SOOO. The superintendent's report states that the average number of patients for the month was 101, and the number of operations 46. On the recommendation of Dr Douglas it was decided to retain the services of Dr Howard at the Taumarunui Hospital at a salary of £luo yearly.
