TE KUITI DEBATING SOCIETY.

The usual meeting of the Parliamentary Union in connection with the Te Kuiti Debating Society was held on Thursdav evening. The attendance was not so large as usual, but a spirited debate ensued on the Land Bill, introduced by the Minister for Lands, Mr R. M, Someryille. The speakers in support of the Bill included Messrs Somerville, Walsh, Turner and Young. The speakers on the Opposition side included Messrs Scholes, Ellison, Hardy, Howarth and Falwasser. A* the conclusion of the debate a division was taken on an amendment introduced by the leader of the Opposition against the compulsory acquisition of native lands. The amendment was accepted as a no-confidence motion and the Government was defeated on the voices.

The leader of the Opposition wai called upon to frame a Cabinet and will introduce a policy at next meeting of Parliament.
