TAFT AND ROOSEVULT. • By Telegraph.—Press Association. —Oopyrlflfbt New York, Thursday. Mr Taft has so far secured 128 of the contested votes at the Republican National Convention at Chicago. Mr Roosevelt'B supporters are indulging in violent recriminations against the National Committee. One of them caused an unprecedented sensation by declaring that if Mr Taft was nominated, it was possible that Mr Roosevelt's supporters would divide the Republican vote in the National College, and thus throw the selection to the Democrats. Mr Roosevelt, in a speech at Oyster Bay said that he intended to submit an unequivocal declaration in favour of women's suffrage to thw Chicago Convention. Chicago, Thursday. The manager of the Taft campaign alleges and publishes a statement that the Roosevelt forces are seeking to corrupt and bribe the Taft delegates. Roosevelt's manager repließ that the story is a pure invention and a campaign lie. A QUARREL WITH CONGRESS. Washington, Thursday. President Taft is quarrelling with Congress. The Senate abolished the Commerce Court, Taft'B pet scheme and held over the Army Appropriation Bill. President Taft holds that such action of Congress unconstitutional, and will probably veto the Army Appropriation Hill, which contains the clause abolishing the Commercu Court. If tho Bill be vetoed the pay of all officers and men in the United Statcß army will be withheld indefinitely.
