THE MAIN ROAD MUDDLE.

To the Editor.

Sir—ln your issue of June Ist, I notice a letter from Mr P. O'Dwyer on what is termed "The Main Road Muddle." Also in your comments on Mr O'Dwyer'g letter you rightly stated it needed no reply, but merited a little explanation. I should like, Mr Editor, to give a word of explanation for the benefit of Mr O'Dwyer and those few who follow him blindly. The stand taken by the settlers on this side of the Marigaotaki is that we are not the rogues Mr O'Dwyer would like the ratepayers of the Waitomo County to believe us to be. Inasmuch as we stated at the meeting held at Pio Pio on the 9th of May that we were willing that our several properties should be brought into a special rating area to contribute towards the cost of raising a loan for the purpose of metalling the roads provided a feasible scheme could be brought in. In conclusion, Mr Editor, the only reason I can see which could make Mr O'Dwyer write in the strain of this letter of the Ist inst. is that he mu3t be suffering from some bad complaint. I think the complaint is due to to an overdose of his own pills. I would suggest to him that he at once endeavour to obtain the antidote, which is a good progressive metalling scheme. —1 am, 6tC " R. BODDY. Paearuhe, June 10th.
