RAILWAY CONNECTIONS.
KAWHIA TO NAPIER SCHEME
At a meeting of the executive of the Te Kuiti Chamber of Commerce held on Wednesday, it was decided that th 9 secetary, Mr Mostyn Jones should represent the Chamber at the conference to be held at Kawhia to-day on the question of railway connection for Kawhia. In view of the interests involved it was deemed advisable that the Chamber should be represented with a view to advocating the railway connection between Kawhia and Napier in order to form a coast-to-coast connection across the centre of the island. The advantages of the scheme are manifold and should appeal strongly to all concerned with the proper development of much oi the beat country in the Dominion. It was pointed out that such a comprehensive scheme would absorb the proposal to connect with the Main Trunk line. In addition with the ultimate objective of a connection between the east and west ports the question of route would be settled by the engineers and the struggle between rival centres on the Main Trunk railway as to which should be the point of connection for the Kawhia line would be settled by the demands of the more comprehensive i scheme.
