Cambridge won the toss and elected to field. Jennings and Kelleway faced the bowling of Holloway and Grierson, and a poor stand was made for the first wicket, Kelleway playing on a ball from Grierson with only IS on the board.

A better stand was made for the second wicket, Macartney and Jennings adding 40, the former playing stylish cricket.

Jennings was run out as the result of a smart return from cover by Saville. He played fautless and brilliant cricket, especially on the leg side. He hit eight fours and batted 100 minutes. His partnserhip with Bardsley added 62. Bardsley gave a difficult chance at 7to square leg. At the lunch adjournment the score was three for 12'.). The century took 90 minutes. On resuming the weather was sunny an the wicket easy. Holloway and Kidd bowled.

Gregory did not stay long, and shortly afterwards Bardaley wa? smartly taken. He was at the wickets for 70 minutes, and drove splendidly, hitting five fours.

The Australians' second century was hoisted in 155 minutes, and then Mulholland went on to bowl.

The change was successful, this bowler capturing the last five wickets. Matthews was caught at cover point first ball, and Emery in the same manner in the bowler's next over. Fifteen runs later Minnett gave a catch at point. He was in for GO minutes and made several good snicks.
