TOWN CLERK VACANCY.
MAYORS' ACTION CRITICISED. A QUESTION OF SALARY. When the question of the town clerk's resignation was before the Borough Council on Monday night, Cr Young referred to the fact that the Council had not been consulted wkh respect to the advertisement calling for application for the position. He considered this should have been done as the question of salary was important, and should only be fixed by the Council. Cr Floyd said he though a clerk could be got for less than £2OO a year. He suggested £175 and this sum could be increased if the clerk was found to be satisfactory. Cr Forsyth agreed with the previous speakers. Cr Finlay suggested that applications should be called requesting applicants to state salary required. Cr Julian proposed that fresh applications be called with the salary stated at £175. This was seconded by Cr Young and carried.
