EMPIRE PICTURE COMPANY
Another programme of up-to-date pictures was presented at the Town Hall last night. "Vanity Fair" the star piece of the evening, was a very fine production, and one of the best of its kind seen in Te Kuiti and found much favour with the audience. On Monday night an entirely new series will be screened, when the ever-popu-lar Pathe'a Gazette, also "An a Australian Gazette will be included. Two lovely scenics are promised by the management, also four or live exciting dramas, and a number of unusually amusing comedies and other fine subjects will all tend to make a programme in full keeping with the company's usual good ones. SKATING RINK. "The Auckland Royal Rink was crowded with • spectators during the past week, there being an attendance of fully SOO, and many had to be refused admission. The principal attraction was the fine exhibition of fancy skating given by Madame Read. With the well-known skater Alhos, she went through the fascinating "Merrv Widow'' wait;: on skates to the delightful strains of Marriage's Orchestra. A two-step American cake-walk by Madame Read brought forth appreciative plaudits from those present, while the. "Vines," a forward and reverse movement in which the clever lady formed the liugre of a vine-leaf en the floor, aroused considerable enthusiasm. "Threading the Maize" was another clever turn. Numerous lighted candies were placed together on the lloor and Madame Read, with great dexterity, skated in and out among the candles, with a forward and reverse movement, which showed that she i 3 a complete master of the art. of skating. At the close of her performance, Madame Read was presented with two handsome boui quels." —Herald. These two skaters have been engaged by the proprietors of the Alexandra Rink, To Kuiti, and will be here from May 27th to June Ist, when they will give exhibitions of their prowess in the local rink, and in the meantime the, proprietary is booking lessons for those desirous of learning fancy skating during their stay in Tc Kuiti.
