ONGARUE SPORTS.

The first meeting under the Ongarue Athletic Club, under the auspices of the New Zealand Athletic and Cycling Union, passed off successfully yesterday. A fair number of attended and thoroughly enjoyed the day's sport. The running track was not in good order and very narrow. As several of the events attracted a largs number of starters the cramped condition of the track did not tend to create fast times a3 the back men were at a considerable disadvantage in getting through. Nevertheless close finishes were the order of the day. The wood chuoping events created enthusiasm and great credit i 3 due to th 3 handicapper, Mr Albrechtsen, for the close finishes. The experience gained by the committee will result in the next sports being carried out without any drawback.
