KIRITEHERE-MOEATOA.
Own Correspondent
On Friday morning, lOth inst., the house of Mr John Woulde's, Kiritehere, was completely destroyed by fire, which originated by some unknown means about three o'clock in tha morning. The alarm was quickly given but in about fifteen minutes, before help could be summoned, the house and all it contained was merely a smouldering heap of ashes, amongst which were gun barrels, cooking utensils, iron bars, tuffee from melted sugar soap, etc. which had run together in a lava-like mass, nails and all the odds and ends that a sudden fire leaves in its wake. An effort was mads to put it out, but the building was dry as tinder, and flared away till burned out, Mr Woulds and sons intend to run up a whare until such time as they pitsaw timber for a new house. The place was not insured. A huge supply of winter stores was destroyed. The mail was saved, but the telephone was destroyed.
