Foreman's Report —I beg to submit a brief report on work done for the period ending May 11th 1912. Duringthe period just ended the weather has been exceptionally bad for road work. The new formation cutting into deep ruts and forming quagmires wherever carting has been done. The streets and roadways throughout the borough has been in a bad state during the late heavy rains. But with the last few fine days are coming bacK to their usual state. I would recommend that all side street crossings be pumiced, especially on new work as the pumice has a drying effect on the clay, and prevents tha water from lodging. During the wet weather work was pushed on in Lawrence streets and Te Kuiti road and the formation is almost completed. There are 6| chains still to be completed. The culverts are urgently wanted, especially the culvert nearer to the town. As the old water course has a rotten bottom, and it being fascined at some time, the stock traffic has broken it through. The work on Mangaorino road near the quarry is in progress and, expect to have it finished during the following week. The work can only be done slowly, as the mud has to be thrown out several times before the.metal can be laid. As instructed I have remetalled Sheridan street crossing, and cut water table to river. The street has not been formed up as the grader will make a better job than what can be done by hand. The crossing at King street has also been re-dressed with river shingle. Work on Rora street footpath has not been proceeded with and would like the council's authority on the matter whether I am to close the work up. As the fences were taken down preparatory to making a start with the training wall. Elizabeth, Ann and Longa streets have been too boggy to finish the trimming. Surfaceman's Report. filling and repairing in the various I places and includes Seddon an Victoria footpaths, made and fenced path by the cuarry. erected small bridge leading to Edward street, path and pumiced parts of Duke and Edward streets. I have cleaned the water channel and cleared slips at the upper part of Mangaorino road, but fresh slips have come down, and will be attended to. The drain has been cleaned past Mr Smith's property. Have filled around the borough offices and gravelled same, put culvert across King street footpath by the Church of England and pumiced the path. I would suggest this part of the path to be fenced, it being dangerous, and would keep horses away from the bank. I have enclosed the carter's time—four dajs four hours and a-half for April ending 30th. The reports of the Sanitary and Works Committee '.vere received and the report from the Finance Committee was agreed to.

It was resolved that a map of the borough be obtained and hung in the council chamber.

Resolved that Cr Forsyth be elected to the Finance Committee and Cr Floyd a member of the Works Committee and Finance Committee.

Resolved that the matter of Mr Chestnut's third? be left to the Works Commtitee.

It was decided that the formation of the footpath in Tawa street be attended to at once.

Resolved that steps be taken to nrocure a piece of ground for a quarry reserve under the Public WorkH Act, at the north end of the own.
