FOOTBALL.

OTOROHANGA CLUB. ANNUAL REPORT. Own Correspondent. The following report of the secretary of the Otorohanga Football Club was read at the football dinner, held last Saturday evening:—■ Gentlemen—l have much pleasure in presenting my third annual report and balance-sheet of the Otorohanga Football Club. During the past season there has only been one team- in existence, viz., the first grade. The parent union endeavoured to organise a second grade competition, but was unsuccessful, Otorohanga and Oparure being the only clubs to nominate a second grade team. These two teams met at Otorohanga when Oparure won by Bto nil. This closed the second grade competition. The first grade team entered for the championship honours and after beating all the other clubs were again successful in holding the banner for the season and winning outright the Chilcott Cup. Instead of caps the players preferred medals, which were obtained and presented to the players the cost of which was met by the union's donation of £5 | ss, £i 4s from the club's funds and £6 13s 6d was subscribed and donated by the vice-presidents and supporters of the club. The team contested six matches in two rounds winning four, two were drawn and they also won two matches by default scoring 14 championship points. Te Kuiti club also scored 14 championship points, and a final game was played at Otorohanga. By winning this the home team retained the banner for another year and won the medals and also won outright the Chilcott Cup. The points scored by the team were 132, made up by 35 tries (six converted), and 5 penalty goals; 22 points were scored against the team, viz.: 4 tries (two converted), and 2 penalty goals. The old ground upon which the club has contested such keen games, will not be available for the game anv more, as the sections have been taken up by several lessees, and who generously left the ground for the use of the club till the season was over. Mr Turner has kindly consented to the club having the use of a ground on his farm for the forthcoming season,' when I hope the club will be able tu use the ground in the Domain. I have thanked the various owners of the grounds for their courtesy to the club. The club and union also suffered a severe loss during the year in the death of Mr John Burke. He was a zealous follower of the game, and a very impartial referee, and his loss will befelt as he was a man whom the union and club could : 1I afford to lose. Your committee got a wreath (as well as the union) from Auckland, and were represented at his funeral as a last respect to a thorough sport. Mr Clayton generously donated one guinea at th« beginning of the season towards a trophy or trophies for the players, this was added to the fund for giving the players their medals. Mr AUright gave the timber for the goal posts and Mr Baker gave a football to the club, for which, on your behalf, I' thanked these gentlemen. The committee also donated £5 to the Otorohanga Domain, and I told the Domain Board they could have it whenever they required the money. The money has not yet been applied for. In conclusion I desire to extend my thanks to the committee, players and patrons of the club for the generous and cheerful assistance given to me thus helping to minimise my labours and curtail the work as much as possible. W. J. WORTHINGTON, Hon. Sec. and Treasurer.
