FAREWELL TO MR T. WILLIAMS

In Messr3 Hattaway and Fitzpatrick's sampl9 rooms on Wednesday evening a large number of citizens asembled to say good-bye to Mr T. Williams, bulider, whu is having the district and going to reside in Whangarei. Mr A. Scholes, chairman of the Waitomo County Council, presided in the absence of Mr E. H. Hardy, the Mayor.

The toast of "The King" being duly honoured, Mr A. Julian proposed the toast of the "King Country," and in an able speech traversed the ancient history of the Knig Country and related stories of fern, ti-tree and wilderness to municipal buildings and other structures in the town. Major Lusk and Mr Peter Floyd responded. The toast of the "Building Trade" was proposed by Mr E. Martin, and Messrs Trevarthen and Vause responded. "Local Bodies" was proposed by Mr N. C. Matthew and Major Lusk and Mr A. Scholes responded, the latter giving a resume of the duties attendant on such authorities as well as remarking on the proposed Local Government Bill. Mr J. B. Young proposed the toast of "Our Guest. —Mr Williams," and referred to Mr Williams' good qualities as a citizen. He presented Mr Williams with a travelling rug on behalf of friends present. Messrs D. J. Young. M. W. Forsyth, E. C. Falwasser, J. T. D. Tammadge, N. C. Matthew, Weill, Fitzpatrick, Kelso, Graham, E. Martin and the chairman added their tribute to Mr Williams' sterling qualities. Mr Williams, in his reply, referred to the good fellowship that had existed since his arrival in Te Kuiti, He paid a special tribute to his native friends. Other toasts honoured were "Newly-elected Councillors," "Kindred Sports," Native Race," "The Ladies," and "The Press." Songs were contirbuted by Messrs R. Henry, D. J. Young, H. Vause and Fitzpatrick. Mr Morgan presided at the piano.
