OTOROHANGA ANGLICAN CHURCH.

AN IMPORTANT MEETING. Own Correspondent. With the object of putting the affairs of the Anglican Church at Otorohanga upon a satisfactory business footing, the vicar called a meeting of the local adherents of the church at 4 p.m. on Friday last, at the Commercial boardinghouse. A fairly large and representative meeting was the result. The vicar (Rev. E. S. Wayne) was in the chair and Mr W. H. V. Hall was appointed secretary. The meeting was addressed by tno vicar upon the pressing needs, financial and otherwise, of the church, and dwelt strongly upon the urgency of appointing a strong and enthusiastic committee to take local control of church affairs. The secretary of the Vestry at Te Kuiti, Mi: John Lee, then outlined a financial plan of operations, which included regular quarterly visits hy the collectors throughout each district, together with the keeping of one set of books and a single system of book-keeping for (he whole parochial district. ; Mr Willis then proposed a local committee, to consist of Messrs Ilosking, ■ W. Vicary, C. Kidson, G. Hawkins, J Ormsby, A. Closey, Burns. J. j Ormsby junr., and Hal!, the last- ■ named to act as secretary. This was seconded by Mr Arthur Closey and j carred unanimously. It was further \ decided that, circumstances permit- | ting, the newly-selected committee ; shoulld hold its first meeting on Sat- j urday. May ISth, at A p.m. in the j church. It is hoped that this 'first; ; meeting will be well attended. :

The collecting of subscriptions among the. parishioners of hanga township will be left to th« committee, but the following gentlemen are to be asked to act as collectors for the country districts :—Messr:' Cumpstone at Kio Kio, YV. Leo at Waitomo, A. D. Willis a l . Pukntarata, Earl at Kaumauku, and Cato at Honikiwi. A general discussion was then initiated by Mr Willis on the matter of erecting a vicarage. He considered it a very expensive plan to pay house rent, for the curate (Rev. W. J. Piggot, whilst they held two sections in the township suitable for the erection of a vicarage, and paid a considerable ground rent for them to the Maori Land Board. Those present held much the same opinion, and Mr Willis eventually moved "That it be a recommendation to the newly-appointed committee to take into consideration the question of ways and means of erecting a vicarage on the site already secured; and that the committee also consider the advisability of securing the freehold of these sections previously to building upon them." This was seconded by Mr A. Clcsey and carried.

The meeting, after the usual votes of thanks to the vicar for presiding. and to Miss Hunter for the use of the her premises, concluded with prayer.
