FOOTBALL.

NORTHERN UNION GAME. On Thursday afternoon on the Domain a football match was played under Northern Union rules. The afternoon was beautifully fine and there was a large attendance. The match was played between A and B teams of To Kuiti Club in aid of the Titanic disaster fund, and it is anticipated that the sum of £ls will be netted in connection wtih the proceedings. The officials of the club, especi ally Mr J. B. Young, are to be congratulated for their public spiritedness in promoting the match in aid of such a worthy object. Arrangements were very complete for the accommodation of ladies/Mr O'Regan having kindly lent a number of chairs for seating. The following were the teams: —• Yellow and Black: Poole, J. O'Sullivan, Scott, Ellis, C. Boles, Quirk, Wetp.ne Hetet, Molloy, Vause, T. Hetet (captain), K. Kerr, Kavenney, V Cole. Black and White: Nikora, Moore, Taylor, Aldred, Kneebone, Kerr, Warburton, Mclntecr, Anderson, F. Kerr, Lambert, Brown (captain). Mr J. Hetet, junr,, acted as referee. An important feature of the commencement of the match was that Mr Peter Floyd, a candidate for municipal honours, kicked off the ball amidst great applause. From Mr Floyd's splendid effort loose play resulted for some time after which Brown got the ball and after a dashing run, passed to F. Kerr, who missed a certain chance of scoring. Day continued in the Yellow territory for a little time when Molloy, who was playing a strong game sent the ball well down the line, after which a series of scrums resulted. A free kick was awarded against the Whites. Boles took the kick, which proved futile. Play continued in Whites' territory and the Yellowi' were awarded a free kick, and Boles kicked a goal. From the kick-off play was of a very desultory nature and offside play relieved a strong rush by the Yellows. The first attempt at a passing rush was initiated by K. Kerr, who sent the ball out to Molloy to Scott, Brown intercepted the ball, and put in a splendid line kick. Molloy again got the ball and made a splendid effort to register a try. Brown, however, got the ball and with another fine kick found the line almost midway.

The second spell was of a similar kind to the first, and at times some excellent flashes of football were witnessed, and shottly after the commencement a try was scored bv Scott and was converted by Boles. —Yellows 6, Whites nil. Tuheka Hetet played a sterling game for his side and was very dangerous on many occasions. The Yellows were awarded a free kick, and Boles made an unsuccessful attempt at goal. After a series of scrums and loose play Quirk registered a try for the Yellows, from which Boles succeeded in kicking a goal.— Yellows 10, Whites nil.

The Yellows proved to be much the stronger team although the Whites showed superior scrum work. For the winners K. Kerr p'ayed a dashing game, and as the season advances there is every possibility that with a little more experience he should develop into a good player. Tuheka Hetet, at times got in some brilliant work, both in attack and defence. Vausa and Boles also did some good work for their team. For the losers F. Kerr, on the three-quarter line, played a hard game, and on many occasions, saved his side. Lambert played a sterling game, and whilst Warburton got in some splendid work. Poole, although used to the track, failed to reproduce any of his old-time dash or head work. Despite the fact that it was the first match of the season, players gave a very good exposition. ____ n ____ __
