MANGAPEHI.
Own Correspondent. A very pleasing function took place here last week, when a hearty sendoff was accorded Mr Harry Johnson, who has left tnis district to take up new duties in Auckland. A very large number of residents attended, and a most successful social did rot end until 1 a.m. During the evening Mr B. W. Hayson, on behalf of the residents, presented Mr Johnson with a handsome dressing case as a token of the esteem in. which Mr Johnson has been held by all during his stay here. Reference was made to his popularity amongst all classes, and to the active part he had taken in all athletics. He v/ill be much missed during the coming football season. A wish for every success and prosperity in his future sphere of duty, was then accorded the departing guest. Mr Hayson Johnson, who was visibly affected, suitably responded, expressing the hope that ho would be able to make as good friends in the future a those he was leaving behind in Mangapehi. Mrs Marsant and Mr Addison very kindly supplied the music. The local footballers are getting in some solid practice on the field at week-ends, and in the hall in the evenings. We hope to put a strong team in for this season's competition.
