AN UNUSUAL CASE.
RESPONSIBILITY OP GRANDPARENTS.

An affiliation case presenting unusual features came before Mr Kettle, SM., yesterday, in which a young woman made a claim againßt the father 'of a young man alleged to be parent of the child. Complainant staled that at the end of last year the young man disappeared leaving no trace. He had been ordered to join the Territorials and told his parentfl he intended to leave the Dominion rather than serve. They presumed that this was hi 3 reason for leaving, and knew of no other circumstances that would cause him to go away.
The magistrate, after hearing evidence, said he considered corroboration of the jrirl'f story sufiiciently strong to warrant, hir waking an order, though he admitted (he law as it stood scorned unduly hard in making putative grandparent!* responsible for the sins of (heir prodigal sons. An order was made for 7s fid week, £5 12e (id arrears, and ,£7 16s birth expenses.
