WAIPA RIVER BRIDGE.
- THE DEPARTMENTS' ATTITUDE. The following letter ha 3 been received by Mr C. K. Wilson, M P., from the Minister for Public Works in connection with the bridge which it is intended to build over the Waipa river at Kawa: —
Sir, —Referring to your letter of April 12th urging that the erection of the Waipa river bridge, Kawa road, should be proceeded with as early as possible, I have to state that plan 3 for the erection of this bridge have already been prepared by the department and forwarded to the Waitomo County Council. The difficulty which stands in the way of the erection of the bridge, however, i 3 that the vote was provided by Parliament as a £1 for £1 subsidy, and the Waitomo County Council states that it has made no provision for raising a loan to furnish the local quota. In the meantime, therefore, and until arrangements are made for the local quota, it is regretted fthat the prosecution of this work will have to stand over, although the plans are completed and the Government vote is available for authorisation. —W. D. S. MACDONALD, Minister of Public Works.
