TE KUITI STREETS.
To the Editor. Sir,I — 1 think it is time somebody spoke his mind on the subject of the Te Kuiti streets. I noticed in a recent issue a letter about a road on the east side of the river. I believe it is in a bad state, but it is no worse than a good many other streets in the town. It is all very well to talk about the wet season being responsible for the state of tne streets,, but the evil is so general that there must be something wrong in the management as well. It is high time the council got to work, and metalled at least some of thtt footpaths, so that our women folk could get out of doors without the great discomfort they are subjectto at present. I notice according to your report of the last council meeting that Mr Julian said he was ashamed of the state of the streets. So he ought to be, and so ought the other councillors to be also. ®ne thing which should be seen to is the way in which horses are ridden and driven along the portion of the streets which -should be reserved for foot traffic. Every part of the road is broken up by horse traffic, and the unfortunate foot passengers are forced to go ankle deep in mud to get t;o and from their homes. If the council does not manage the rest of its affairs any better than it has managed the streets there is a bad time ahead for the town. —I am, etc., RATEPAYER.
