DISTRICT REQUIREMENTS.
STILL MORE ROADS
Mr J. Boddie, of Te Kuiti, who last week paid a visit to the Waikato stated in conversation with a Chronicle representative that a feature of the Waikato with which he was greatly impressed was the fine system of roads which obtained in the district. Comparing it with the King Country, one could not fail to be impressed with the enormous amount of work which was ahead of the local bodies of this district. It was very plain that in order to develop our district properly the completion of the present ruad3 was merely the beginning of the work. The roads at present in existence would require to be multiplied several times over before our resources could be satisfactorily developed. Moreover, the work would have to be taken in hand in the near future. In the interests of all, these facts should not be forgotten. The people would have to take the initiative, and should also agitate for every possible assistance fom the authorities. The dairying industry, which meant so much to any district, could only be followed and worked up to a satisfactory standard, by the establishing of a complete roading system, and upon the success of the dairying industry depended the prosperity of a great portion of the King Country. "Our chief agitation in the past," said Mr Boddie, "has been for roads, and our strongest agitation in future, for some time to come, must still be for roads."
