Newton King reports:-

In my Stratford on the 16th cattle there vvaa a big yarding of stock and a very large attendance of buyers were present from all parts of the Taranaki district, and there was a good demand fur all classes, especially for good 3h year bullocks and store cows. Th'i last draft of SO odd bullocks from the Nukuhakere station were of excellent quality and met with good competition, realising £<i 5s and £6 7s, good weaners, best 24s Gd to 39s 6d, poor ISs to 21s (id, weaner heifers 33s to 50s, 20 months heifers in calf £3 Is to £3 2s fa'd, 2 years, small £3 lis to £3 16s, stags £3 7s fid, 20 months steers £2 2s 6d to £2 10s, 2 year steers £4, 3S year bullocks £5 2s to £6 7s, store cows £2 8s to £3 3s, forward cows £3 lis to £4 3s. fat cows £5 Is to £5 19s, bulls £2 2s, cows in milk £6 2s 6d, springing heifers £6 10s. At Stoney River on the 17th inst., I had a small yarding but a good attendance and demand, practically everything being cleared at the hammer at the following rates :—Jersey weaner heifers 43s 6d, 20 months steers £2 9s to £3 7s 6d, 2 year steers £4, 20 months heifers in calf, small £3 Is, 21 year heifers in calf £5 ss, store cows £2 to £3 Is, forward cows £3 8s to £4 ss, bulls £1 5s to £3 16s, dairy cows £4 5s to £5.
