OTOROHANGA SCHOOL COMMITTEE

HOUSEHOLDERS' MEETING. Own Correspondent. The annual meeting of householders for the purpose of discussing school matters and electing a school committee, was held in Turner's Hall on Monday night. There was a very fair attendance, much better than last year when the meeting lapsed. Mr Miller was in the chair, and gave a short account of the past year's work. The balance sheet showed that the committee commenced with a balance of about £1 and finished the year with a balance of £13.--The report of the accounts, etc., were passed as presented. Mr Whyte said he was not standing for the committee this time, but would like the meeting to suggest to the incoming committee to take energetic and continued action in getting the Board of Education to attend to either enlarging the present teacher's house j or else build a new one. The former committee had discussed the matter several times, but had not made any progress with it, and it was a very urgent matter. He also brought up about the flagstaff, and mentioned that a better paddock was required for the children's horses. Mr Burnand said he Would like, as a former committeeman, to endorse Mr Whyto's remarks. The house certainly required attending to, and a new flagstaff was badly wanted. He had made a thorough examination and found that the foundation was sound but a new mainmast was wanted, and he would be prepared to assist the committee if they decided to go on with the matter. The school boundaries also required lcoking to. Two of the former committee (Mesrss Burnand and Whyte) declined nomination for another year, and the following committee was elected:— Messrs Miller, Rhodes, Piggot and Elliott of the former committee, and Messrs Hosking Harrison and J. A. Ormsby. i
