HONIKIWI.
Own Correspondent
A very enjoyable dance was tendered by the employees of Mr Ruthery, road contractor, to the residents of Honikiwi.and the surrounding district, on April 3rd. Visitors came from all points of the compass, and before the dance started the school house was full, Dancing, interspersed with musical items, was continued to the early hours of morning, and then it was only with an effort that the younger generation could drag themselves away. Mr Potter acted as M.C. on behalf of the "camp," and before the proceedings closed thanked the hosts for the very enjoyable evening that they had provided. He was sure all present had spent a very pleasant night and was confident that they would ail go away with the happiest recollections of the metallers' camp. Three cheers were given in a very hearty manner for the men at the close of the speech. It is hoped that the residents of the district will be able to return the dance before the contract is finished. The weather for the last week or two has been much better than that previously experienced. Many settlers have been able to burn, but have not been as successful as they would have been if the. summer had been fine. Feed is very abundant everwyhere and stock is in the "pink" of condition. Milking returns are still keeping up to the high average attained through the season, and on the whole farmers are experiencing a very profitable season. The first term of the school year is now passed and the children are commencing the vacation. The roll number is keeping up very well, although later on there is a great likelihood of it falling off again.
