AMUSEMENTS.

BARTON'S CIRCUS

The above combination is to appear in T e Kuiti to-night. Tbe Lyttelton Times says:—"There was a large attendance at Barton Eros'. Circus when it opened its Cbristchurch season. It was a genuine circus, and the entertainment was received with much approval by the patrons. Strong men, horses, trapeza artists, jugglers, clowns and performing animals made up a strong company, and some of the turns were really clever. The Barton Bros, have a new company for their return and farewell visit. There are. 70 horses and ponies, and eighteen waggons which transport the whole show, and over 40 members in the company, also a first -class band. A striking free attraction is announced prior to the opening of the doors. The circus arrived by special train from Taumaruuni this morning.

EMPIRE PICTURE COMPANY. Another excellent programme of moving .pictures was produced at the Town Hall on Monday evening in the presence of a large audience. The different items were well selected and a good evening's entertainment was provided. For Monday evening next (Easter Monday) a special holiday programme is promised by the management, amongst other pictures to be screened will be the famous Scottish story, "Auld Lang Syne," which has drawn packed houses nightly in all the big centres. It i-i said to be one of the prettiest dramas ever produced, the acting being so natural that it is difficult to imagine that you are looking at a picture. Beautiful coloured subjects by the new process of colourmagraphy will also be shuwn, as well as a big variety of comics, scenics, and topicals, including a specially taken one of the Territorials in camp at Hamilton, big gun firing, marching, etc. An advertisement appears in another column.
