OTOROHANGA SPORTS.

SUCCESSFUL MEETING. Own Correspondent. The newly - formed Otorohanga Sports Club held their first meeting on Thursday. The club were rather handicapped in that the paddock that they thought they were getting was not available and they had to make fresh arrangements. Mr W. Bowlin kindly came to the rescue and gave the use of his paddock which, although po-jsibly not so convenient in some ways, made a good substitute. The ground committee got to work and marked out a course and put in a lot of work. They will no doubt be pleased to know that the competitors thought the ground did credit to the club. The meeting was most successful and everything went without a hitch, reflecting great credit on the secretaries, Messrs Hawkins and Rayner, and the committee on the ground, Messrs Miller, Bowlin, Hornblow, J. Ormbsy, Keileigh, Whyte and Hosking. A'.l were pleased at the manner in which Mr H. Rothery handled the fields and the very even starts he got off. Messrs Alhvright, Hall and Osmond, as judges for the athletic events, and W. Taylor, W. Bowlin and J. Beck, as judges of the chopping events, were the right men in the right places. There was not one protest lodged during the meeting. The Highland events were greatly appreciated and did much to make the success that the meeting was, and with the experience gained in running this meeting, the club will be in a good position to bring off meetings in the future that will compare with any other club. The following are the resultsHigh Jump.- G. Bradley and Kite a tie.

The special prize presented by Mr C. Cameron for the best-dressed Highland lad or lass was awarded to Master Don Cameron, a boy about four and a half years old, and he looked a picture. A most enjoyable social was held in the evening in Turner's Hall, and once again the urgent necessity for a larger hall was pointedly demonstrated. There was hardly room to move about, but one and all had a good time and thoroughly appreciated the musical items that were interspersed with the dancing. Several of the Highlanders gave exhibitions of sword dancing and Irish jigs, etc.
