TE KUITI BOROUGH COUNCIL.
A meeting of the Borough Council was held last night. There were present — His Worship the Mayor (Mr Jas. Boddie). ("is Busk, Julian, Somerville, Hardy, Finlay, Young and Forsytil. The 11nder-Serretary for Public Works wrote. intimating that Mr W. y. Short., assistant Under-Secretary for the Department, had been appointed a commissioner to enquire into the matter of taking part of Te Kumi No. i:; block for a sanitary depot.— The matter was left in the hands of the Finance and Legal Committee with newer to act.
Mr I line, Borough Solicitor, wrote with respect to the subdivision of lot section 1, block 15, Orahiri, advising that the roads were not streets within the meaning of the Municipal Corporations Act, and therefore were not under the control of the Council. The dedication could only be done subject to the consent of the Council and such consent -should not be given until satisfactory arrangements had been made as to fomation, etc., of roads. —-Received. A number of residents of Taupiri street wrot9 complaining of the shed at the back of Mr Morgan's boarding house being used for tying up dogs, the practice having become a nuisance. — It was suggested that a municipal shelter for dogs be established. —Received. Mr L. Jacob wrote requesting that j the drain in Rarongo street be cleftred, or failing that to consider the making of a fresh drain through borough property in order to clear the swamp before the wet weather sets in.—Letter referred to the Works Committee for a report. From same, advocating the erection of a traffic bridge over the at Sheridan street. —Received. Mrs E. A. Mac Donald wrote offering to supply books for the library.—Received. ■T. Eriksen applied for permission to remove wooden approach to his | property.—Permission granted. I Te Kumi Road.—Cr Somerville suggested that as the County Council had a crushing plant at the quarry on Te Kumi road, an arrangement might be made, to obtain metal from the County plant; for that portion of the road which lay within the Borough boun-dary.--It. was agreed that the County Council should be approached on the matter. The Mayor said he proposed calling n public meeting during neoit week for the purpose of electing a committee to act in conjunction with the ("ounc.il. He trusted the councillors would attend and assist in framing a workable scheme. Finance.- The Finance and Begal Committee recommended, the acceptance of Messrs Bunny and Avson's offer of a loan of ,iTS(ioi> at . r > per cent., for the purpose of electric light and municipal buildings. The Committee also recommended the letting of the hall to the Methodist Church on Sunday and one night a week at a rental of ten shillings.
