WAIWIHA SPORTS.
The Waimiha Sports Club held their annual meeting on Saturday last. The day was particularly fine and there was a largo attendance of settlers and natives. All the events were enthusiastically contested. The chopping events attracted considerable attention. There were large entries in all casen. The special points prize (gold medal) presented by Mr A. H. Ellicott was won by M. Alderidge. The arrangements for the day were very complete, and the committee and officers are deserving great credit. The secretary, Mr W. Camp, was indefatigable in his efforts in bringing the function to a successful issue. A ladies' committee consisting of Mesdames Camp, Brake, Lovett, Cooper, Hobepa and Ngahi attended to the refreshments. and needless to say were a considerable factor in the sucess of the gathering. The committee were Messrs J. O'Leary, J. O'Regan, M. Alderidge, G. Sturniey, A. Bate. W. A. Hogg (treasurer). Messrs A. 11. Ellicott and C. Harrison acted as judges. The handicappers were Messrs C. Lovett, A. E. Parkes, and J. C. McKay, and the starter was Mr J. Ruddick. Following are the results:—

Rou Rata, 42ft, 1, Wahanga 2. Sack Race. —Poutawera 1, T. Akau 2. Married Ladies' Race. —Mrs Mona Hohepa 1, Mrs Cooper 2. Weight-guessing Competition.—G. Bamfield.
Single Ladies' Race. Miss J. Brake 1, Kotero 2. Te Akau Hack Jumping Competition.—J. C. McKay's Major 1, Tu Whariga's Waiona 2. In the evening; a social was held and was presided over by Mr A. H. Ellicott. There was a large attendance, and a most enjoyable evening was spent. Songs were contributed by Mrs Ellicott and Miss Crumb (duet), Messrs J. Marshall and W. Hogg (duet), R. Ellicott, J. Marshall, W. Hogg and G. Sturniey. Miss Williams gave a recitation, and Mrs Orr rendered a pianoforte solo. Mr G. Gomez gave an exhibition of longshoe dancing. Dance music was supplied by Messrs P. Tulloch, G. Gomez and G. Bamfield. The programme was interspersed by a nrnuber of poi dances and hakas by a number of natives.
