ATHLETICS.

The fact that the famous sprint runner, Arthur B. Postles, is to run at Te Kuiti sports is sure to give rise to immense interest in the gathering. Postles is a much-travelled athlete and preserves a well earned reputation for integrity both on and off the running track. The contests between Postles and Donaldson on March 16th provided the finest exhibition of sprinting ever witnessed in Auckland, and both men got splendid receptions from the crowd, although of course, Postles was the popular hero. The times registered in the events constituted world's records for the 150 yds and 200vds, while in the 75yds Postles equalled his own record. The conditions were against fast times, which makes the peformance all the more meritorious. There can be. no doubt about the distances, for they were accurately measured before the races and the tape put over them afterwards, when they were found to be absolutely correct, wtiile the watches were held by experienced men. In addition, fully a dozen watches held by uutsiders, one or two near the tape, the others not being so advantageously placed, did not vary one-fifth of a second from the official time. The Domain track is said to be the fastest in Australasia, but it haa just the shade of a rise at the start, afterwards being absolutely levei to the finish. Everything seems in order, and when the watches are tested application will be made for the records on behalf of Postles. Next week sport followers will have an opportunity of witnessing three athletic meetings in the district. The Te Kuiti Club holds its annual meeting on Wednesday, and on the following day the Otorohanga sports will be celebrated. On Saturday the meeting at Mangapehi will be brought off.
