WINTER OATS.
We all know what valuable winter feed green oats 'are, and the best of all the numerous varieties is Algerian. It stools well, and stock are very fond of it. If sown in March it may be fed of! three times, and if required it may be left for a crop afterwards. Nothing much need be said about oats, as every farmer is fully aware of its value. The great and only drawback to its cultivation is that on light soils in the north grass does not do too well after it. As a winter feed solely it has not this disadvantage, for it may be ploughed in in the soring, and if let grow a foot or more in height before turning under, so much the better, as it will furnish much needed humus.
