CAPE BARLEY.
| Barley is much favoured by many people on account of the quantity of feed it gives and its rapid growth. There is no doubt that on suitable soiis it is a most valuable form of winter feed. Low and wet soils and hard clays are not suited to it. If intended for a crop after feeding uff it would be unwise to use a mixture with much nitrogen, as the straw had a tendency in such cases to lodge, and the grain is not of perfect quality. Super and °bone, super alone, or slag may be used in quantities from 2£ to 3cwt. per acre according to the quality of the soil. Barley stands a good deal of feeding, and is good for sheep as well as cattle. One and ahalf to two bushels per acre is a fair seeding. Sow in March for early winter feed.
