RACING.

Te Aroha Jockey Club were very unfortunate with the weather for f.hfiir annual meeting, and two postponements were necessitated, the opening day being postponed from the Monday to Tuesday, and the second day from the Wednesday to Thursday. Notwithstanding this, the fact that a large number of visitors were unable to . see the meeting through, the club had a record gathering, the totalisator investments being an increase of £ll9O on last year. Returned visitors state that the track stood the rain in a remarkable manner, and that the going under the circumstances must be accounted good. Considerable discussion is proceeding in the south as to the respective merits of Bronze and Counterfeit. From present indications it appears that it is unlikely that the pair will meet this season over a reasonable distance of ground, although there is a possibility of a meeting in the North Island Challenge Stakes, to be run at Trentham in April, but as this is only over a course extending over seven furlongs, it would not be a very satisfactory test. As several good judges in the south are found advancing Bronze's claims, she must be a filly considerably out of the ordinary. The well-known horseman, H. Gray, struck trouble at the Dannevirke meeting. After the Telephone Hack Handicap, the stewards met and inquired into the running of Miss Augusta. It was alleged that Gray, who rode Miss Augusta, had wilfully run out Ladino at the home trun, and thus interfered with his chances of winning. After lengthy evidence had been taken the inquiry was adjourned. At a subsequent meeting of stewards Gray Jjjwas disqualified for twelve months.
