HOSPITAL FOR KAWHIA.
APPLICATION GRANTED
At the last meeting of the Waikato Hospital Board,Mr Shaw, representing Kawhia, said that the claims of his district should have earnest and immediate consideration. The district was quUe isolated, and a cottage hospital with a resident nurse was urgently needed. The country was now developing rapidly, the population numbering over 800. Kawhia had a medical club and practically provided for a doctor by subscription. The Kawhia people did not wish the board to be saddled with the whole expense, and would be prepared to provide £2OO towards the expense of the undertaking. Kawhia was 47 miles irom a railway, but it was progressing very rapidly, and when the Government block, which was being opened up for settlement, was ready, the population would increase greatly. The application was granted and it was decided to prepare plans and specifications for a nurse's home at Kawhia and make it a charge on next year's allocations.
