COMMERCIAL.

The Palmerston North ram fair was held on Tuesday, under the auspices of the Manawatu A. and P. Association. There was a fair attendance of buyers, and bidding for the better classes of sheep was brisk. The total yarding was 1558 head. liomneys were presented by 39 stud rams and iIS fioak rams, and Lincolns by eight stud and 338 flock rams. Flock Southdowns numbered 235. Mr T. McKenzie topped prices for stud Romneys with 13gns, and Mr Max Voss, of Karere, for the fourth year in succession, topped price for flock Romneys with l-sgns. The Farmers' Co-operative Auctioneering Company, Ltd., report: ■ On February 22nd the annual ram fair was held at Ohaupo. Our entries totalled 890 rams. The entry was much beyond requirements. The sale was a very dull, dragging one. and only a limited amount of business was done. Romneys made from 2 J to 6gns, the majority about the former price; Lincoln rams 2?; to Signs, but the quality of those yarded was indifferent. English Leicester rams H to 2£gns the best rams of this breed bieng from Mr R. Bremer, of Waverley, and these made from 3 to TJgns; Shropshire rams 1 to 2Jgns; Southdowns, 2gns; Mr Walter Chitty s Romney flock sold as follows: Ewes 2 to 3ngs, ewe lambs Igns. On February 24th we held a sheep fair in the Matiere yards, the yarding totalling 3340 sheep. There was fair competition, and all were sold except 97. Prices: —6 and 8 tooth ewes of good class 10s fid to 12s Id, fair 2 tooth ewes, cull tooth ewes 9s Sd, lambs 3s 9d to 5s 6d, aged ewes 2s 9d to 5s (3d, aged but sound-mouthed ewes Ss 6d to 8s 9d, 2 tooth wethers 12s Id to 12s lOd, fat wethers 153 6cl, Romney rams 4Jgs, aged rams 5s to 30s.

We held our annual Ngaruawahia sheep fair on February 21st, yarding 17,701 sheep. There was a large attendance of buyers and a good demand for all classes. Prices improved as the sale advanced, and in the end there was an unsatisfied demand for good sound breeding ewes and fresh wethers. With the exception of 514 sheep all were disposed of. Forward woolly lambs 8s (id to 10s 7d, well rgown fresh conditioned shorn lambs 7s 3d to 8s 6d, cull lambs 5s to Os, 2 tooth ewes extra good 13s 6d to 14s Gd, smaller sorts 10s 6d to 12s, good framed 4 year ewes 12s to 13s 9d, sound mouth fair ewes 9s 6d to lis, aged ewes 7s 6d to 9s, fat and forward 12 tooth wethers 14s to 15s Bd, forward 2 tooth wethers 12s 6d to 13s 9d, smaller sheep 10s 6d to lis Gd.
