OHURA COUNTY COUNCIL.
The monthly meeting of the Council was held in the Council Chambers on February 21st. There were present Crs Loveday (chairman), Currie, Sandison, Kelly, Sowry and Risk. Noxious Weeds. The inspector wrote notifying that the matter is receiving attention. Felling Bush on Reserves. —■ Instructions were received from the acting Crown Lands Commissioner, to the Council to prevent bush being felled on reserves. Alteration of Boundaries. Tbo county clerk of the Whangamomona Council requested the Ohura County Council to furnish a litho. showing the proposed alterations.-The officer in charge of the Valuation Department wrote for a litho. of county showing the alterations of the northern boundary of the county and of the alteration of the Niho Niho riding. Telephone to Waitanga. Forms of bond to be entered into between the Council and the Telegraph Department were received. Ohura Road, —An authority of £IOOO has been issued by the Resident Engineer for pumicing from Ongarue towards the 12-mile peg. Te Uru Road.—A sum of £3OOO has been authorised for expenditure on this road which may be expended by the Council. Tongaporutu-Mangaroa Road. —The Resident Engineer wrote that the worst portions of the Waira-anga swamp were being made passable. Papa Burning Near Matiere.—The total amount available is required for pumicing the main road. The department cannot undertake to burn any papa as requested. Ford on Managkara Road.—R. W. Mcßae wrote asking the Council to repair the ford during the summer as it was getting impassable.—Resolved that the engineer report and ascertain the available thirds. Resolved that the southern boundary of blocks S, 5, 6 and 7, Heao Survey District, be suggested as the southern county boundary. Mangakara Road. —The question of whether the Council would insist on erecting the bridge, the plans of which had been submitteud or have the available vote expended in widening. Letters had been forwarded to the Minister of Public Works in opposition to the erection of the bridge which caused delay. At present the work is suspended. Cr Kelly explained that the bridge was part of the original scheme, but by the change of site of bridge, the. bridge would cost more than was anticipated, hence the trouble. Unless bridge was erected road widening would be of no use to the settlers, and he moved that a certain amount be expended in widening and that sufficient funds be held over to complete the bridge. An amendment was submitted by Cr Currie and on being put the voting was equal, Crs Loveday, Currie and Sowry voting for, Cr Risk. Sandison and Kelly against. The chairman refused to give a casting vote. Crs Risk, Sandison and Kelly resigned. No quorum being present the Council was adjourned.
