COMMERCIAL.

Messrs Dalgety and Co., Ltd., report: _ On 20th and 21st inst. we held our Hamilton horse fair, when entries came forward far beyond all expectations, about 400 horses being put up for auction. There was a keen demand for draughts right throughout the sale, and competition was very brisk from start to finish, especially on a line sold on account of Messrs Green and Beattie, of Te Kuiti, who have just given up contracting. These horses were evidently well known and bidding was very brisk. Messrs Hoult and Sons, of Feilding, who also sent a large number of draughts realised big prices, and nearly all of their animals sold readily under the hammer. Light horses were not in such demand, and on the second day the sale was somewhat dragging, although good horses realised satisfactory prices. Quotations:—Heavy draughts £35 to £39 10s, mediums £2B to £33, good farm horses £23 to £26, spring trap horses £ls to £22 10s, good hacks £ls 10s to £l9. medium hacks up to £2O 10s, ponies £5 to £7 10s, squibs £1 6s to £3 10s.

On the 22nd inst. we held our annual ram fair at Ohaupo, when we had a yarding of about 300 rams consisting mainly of Romneys. The fair throughout, with one or two exceptions, was somewhat dragging, and prices realised couid not cumpare with those of last year. We were, however, successful in disposing of most of the entries. The Romney class was good and some very fine sheep came forward, particularly those of Mr Standon, anew settler in this district lately from Palmerston North, for whom we were successful in topping the market in this class at 6£gr.s. The Lincolns generally were all medium quality and the same might be said of the other breeds. Quotations:—2 tooth Romneys 2£ to 6£gns, 2 tooth Lincolns 2| to 3Jgns, 4 tooth Lincolns 2gns, English Leicesters 1J to ljgns, Border - Leicesters lj-gns, Shropshires H to 3gns.
