TERRITORIALS.

Good progress is being made by the local companies of the Territorials, and the officers report that the men are doing their work well and taking keen interest in the movement. An encampment of the 16th Regiment—all Territorials within Area No. 16 — will commence at C!audeland3, Hamilton, on March 18th, and will be continued until the 26th (inclusive). A large number of the Headquarters' Staff will be present, as well as eight military instructors. In all it is anticipated that there will be about 800 men in camp, of which the Te Kuiti, Pio Pio, Mahoenui and Otorohanga districts will contribute about 100 men. They will be taken to the encampment grounds by special train on the ISth March. The camp arrangements are in good order, as two other regiments have recently been in possession. As far as this Area is concerned, the undertaking will be quite an experience, for out of the 800 men very few have ever been in a military camp. On arrival of the troops at camp they will be supplied with all equipment and uniforms. The Territorials inTe Kuiti number 32 and the Senior Cadets 84. Both corps are reported to be doing satisfactory work. The Defence Department have secured a lease of the Skating Rink for one night a week for a drill shed. A parade of the Territorials will be held to-night. Lieut. Price and Staff Sergt.Instructor Mooney will be in attendance at Pio Pio on Thursday, and Mahoanui on Friday, for the purpose of swearing in men and holding of first parade.
