LAWN TENNIS.
Interest in the local tennis club has somewhat waned of late, but with the challenge from the Mangapehi club for the Howard Shield in, matters in the tennis world should brighten. The team selected are asked to practice as much as possible before the 24th inst. The courts are not in their best condition, and will require attention before Shield matches take place. Matters in connection with the new courts are being advanced, and it is hoped that next season tennis will bs played under more roomy conditions. Though the team selected to defend the Howard Shield is a good on the selection has been weakened by the absence fromTeKuiti of Miss Jordan, and Messrs Kelso and Wallace.
