INQUEST AT PIO PIO.
An inquest on the body of Charles Stagg, the victim of the drowning accident on Wednesday last was held at Pio Pio on Sunday before Mr J. Tammadge, acting-coroner. The body was recovered en Saturday by a Maori named Patea, in a deep hole close to where the accident occurred. After hearing the evidence the jury returned the following verdict —"That the deceased, Charles Str.gg, met with his death by accidentally drowning in the Mukau river while endeavouring to recover a ream cf horses." Special mention was made by the jury of the services rendered uy those who untiringly assisted to recover the body, especially Messrs A. P. R. .McKay, R. Johnston and W. Innis. Deceased was highly esteemed in the district., and a large number of settlers attended thy funeral, which took p'ace at o p.m., on Sunday, the Rev. T. W. Potts officiating.
