CRICKET.

The Fio Pio cricketers having tasted the sweets of victory over the Mangaotaki players, are anxious to add further lustre to their record by meeting and vanquishing the Te Kuiti team. Unfortunately, it is rather difficult for the town players to make the journey to Pio Pio and get back the same day, but no doubt a strong effort will be made to meet the occasion. If the country players could manage to travel to Te Kuiti at any time a warm welcome will be accorded them. The local wicket is now in very good order and probably a better game would be possible at Te Kuiti than in the country. The value of a good wicket in bringing the standard of play to a high pitch cannot be over-rated, while the effect of a rough wicket on young players is often extremely bad. An effort is being made to get a game played at Te Kuiti with the Mangapehi team, at an early date, and it is anticipated the matter will be arranged for the first convenient Saturday during this month. The Te Kuiti club was disappointed in its efforts to get a game with the Hamilton players on January 29th, and intend making another try to secure a game, to be played at Hamilton on March 17th.
