CRICKET.

Members of Te Kuiti Club have been assiduous in practice of late and an improvement is noticeable all round among the players. A gratifying feature is the number of young players who are taking part in the practices and the future of the game bears a bright appearance. N. B. Lusk is coming back to his form with both bat and ball, and his coaching of the younger players is responsible for the exhibition of more correct cricket. The team chosen to play against Taumarunui to-day should render a good account of itself, though it is to be regretted that the strongest combination should not have been abie to travel. The project of taking aTe Kuiti eleven to Hamilton on January 29th has fallen through, the Waikato Association having intimated that the day mentioned would be unsuitable as a match had already been arranged by them for that date. The result of the third Test match was practically a foregone conclusion after the poor score by the Australians in the first innings. At the same time the total of 501 put up by the Englishmen must have been a fine effort, and it showns plainly that the team takes a tremendous lot of beating, either in bowling or batting. The Australians made a great recovery in their second, innings, and put up a characteristic fighting effort. Had their first innings total been at all decent the visitors would have had to play to the bitter end to have scored a win. Still it was a handsome victory and must be given every credit for.
