LIGHTING TE KUITI.
LOAN PROPOSAL CARRIED.
The matter of installing a lighting scheme for Te Kuiti advanced a stage further on Thursday last, when the poll on the proposal to raise a loan of £7035 for the carrying out of the electrical scheme was taken. The polling was not heavy, less than 50 per cent, of those on the roll recording their votes. The weather, which was extremely bad throughout the day was no doubt accountable to some extent for the smallness of the vote, but it must be said that less interest than tne proposal merited was manifested in the matter by the great bulk of the people. However, what was found lacking in quantity was compensated for in quality, the voters both for and against being keenly interested. The voting was extremely close; out of a total of 152 votes recorded 78 voted for the proposal, and 74 against. Presumably the preliminary work attached to the electrical schema will be put in 'hand at the earliest possible time.
