RAILWAY STAFF PRESENTATION.
VALEDICTORY TO MR CONNELL. On Monday night at Te Kuiti Railway Station, a presentation of a clock was made to Mr D. Connell, of the clerical staff of the Railway Department, who has been appointed relieving clerk of the Auckland division. The presentation was made by Mr White (stationmaster). on behalf of the railway employees, and eulogistic reference was made to Mr Connell as a most obliging official. His promotion was well justified and he thought that if Mr Connell cuntinned his duties in the same conscientious manner in which he had carried them out in Te Kuiti that he would have little to fear, as regards hia future career. A number of others engaged us Mr Connell's colleagues, also testified to his ability and tact in dealing with the public. Mr Conneli, in returning thanks, feelingly remarked that the presentation was most unexpected, and had totally taken him by surprise. He had always endeavoured to work with his fellow employees as best he could, and thought that he had done so with a certain amount of success. He thanked those present for the very generous gift. Later in the evening, Mr Connell was entertained at a smoke concert by the carriers of the town, when the health of the guest, and a number of others were honoured, the general expression being prosperity to the guest and a hearty testimony to his untiring efforts in his many dealings with the general public.
