FATAL QUARRY ACCIDENT.
A PREMATURE EXPLOSION. [vy TKi,v:t;n.\riT.—riu:ss association.] Timaru, This Day. A fatal accident happened at the Harbour Board's quarry yesterday afternoon. A blast was fired prematurely and a fall of rock caught and killed a man named Patrick O'Neill, seriously injured the board's engineer, F. Clarke, and slightly injured a third man. Clarke had told O'Neill when all was ready to light the fuse and come away. From some cause the explosion followed immediately. O'Neill was hurried in the fall of rock, and after three hours excavating his body was recovered. Deceased was aged 40 and leaves a young wife and four children.
