Enraged because of h!s refusal to issue a prescription ordering a pint of whisky, a man named Hatfield shot dead Dr Thornton, a well-known physician.. at Charleston, West Virginia. The doctor was attending to an injured person when he was killed. Hatfield fled, but was captured. A force of sheriffs is guarding the prisoner, the officials fearing that an attempt may be made to rush his cell andjlynch him. \ k
